T-Rock's Take on the Giants
Cruz: Redskins have gone from 'a couple pieces away' to 'team to beat'

Just about a month ago Victor Cruz said that the Redskins were “still a couple pieces away” from being contenders for “legitimate talks for playoffs and things like that.” That was in on Nov. 28, a few days before the Giants faced the Redskins, lost to them, and soon after lost control of the NFC East.
Now, Cruz seems to have a new perspective on the Redskins.
“They’ve got the upper...

Stevie Brown had his eighth interception of the season on Sunday, enough to earn him a second NFC Defensive Player of the Week honor.
Brown picked off Michael Vick (who hasn’t?) in the first quarter of the team’s 42-7 bludgeoning and returned it 48 yards to set up the Giants’ first touchdown. He also had six solo tackles in the game.
Brown was also the NFC DPOW after he had two interceptions...

What’s the difference between Lovie Smith and Tom Coughlin, other than the fact that one has a job right now and the other doesn’t? If you look at their regular-season records with their teams over the last nine years, not very much.
Both men were hired as head coaches by the Bears and Giants starting with the 2004 season, so they have a neat nine-year span to compare. Here are their regular-season...

Osi Umenyiora has spent the majority of his Giants career believing he was worth more than he was being paid. He’s about to find out if he was right.
“I've earned the right to be a free agent,” Umenyiora said on The Michael Kay Show on ESPN Radio in New York Monday evening. “It's been 10 years. I signed a seven-year deal and they made me play out all seven of those years. If they wanted me...

Chase Blackburn has been in this spot before. This is his third time, in fact. The season ends and he makes his way through the building saying goodbye to teammates, coaches, administrators – anyone affiliated with the Giants. He knows he may not ever see them again.
“Last year I said goodbye again, just in case, but I was fortunate enough to get the one-year deal to sign back this year,”...

The Giants finished in second place in 2012, so they can finalize who and where they'll play in 2013. The dates and times and all that fun stuff will be hammered out in April.
Just a hunch, but the Giants-Broncos game might be appealing to networks who air prime time football.

Washington Redskins (10-6)
Dallas Cowboys (8-8)
Philadelphia Eagles (4-12)

For the second week in a row an opposing player has been fined for a hit on Victor Cruz. Last week it was Chris Hope of the Flacons who was tagged for $30,000 and this week it was the Ravens’ Ed Reed who was smacked up for $55,000.
“Nobody likes to see the Salsa Man get hurt,” Cruz said jokingly of the fines that have come from him being hit. “I don’t know what it is.”
The latest fine,...

At least three Giants are guaranteed a chance to play beyond Sunday’s regular-season finale. Victor Cruz, Chris Snee and Jason Pierre-Paul were all named to the NFC roster for the Pro Bowl, which will be played in Honolulu on Jan. 27. Pierre-Paul was named a starter for the team.
“I’m honored and humbled to be selected,” said Cruz, who had the most votes from fans among NFC wide receivers....

Justin Tuck will not play in the Giants’ most important game of the season.
The defensive end was listed as inactive against the Ravens, even though he was labeled as questionable for the game late in the week. He did not practice at all this week with a shoulder injury.
Tuck was unsure if he would play when he spoke to reporters on Thursday, but certain that whatever role he was in...
