Some Cyber Monday deals really are too good to be true, the Yonkers Police Department and the FBI are warning consumers.
The Yonkers police issued reminders from the FBI's Internet Crime Complaint Center for online shoppers to beware of:
• Products or gift cards for sale on auction or classified advertisement websites with prices far below those in retail outlets;
• "One day only" websites featuring products in high demand;
• Phishing emails, text messages, or phone calls that purportedly coming from a well-known retailer and that ask you to verify a credit-card number or to update personal account information;
• Gift card offers on social media sites appearing to be from brand-name retailers.
For shoppers, commonsense remains the best defense. The FBI's No. 1 tip: If it looks too good to be true, it probably is.
