How it started
The George Washington Bridge is completed. New York Gov. Franklin D. Roosevelt and New Jersey Gov. Morgan F. Larson dedicate this early Hudson River crossing before a crowd of 30,000. Before the bridge, the best way to get across the Hudson was a ferry that went from Dobbs Ferry to Grandview in Rockland County.
