Ben Savage, Danielle Fishel return for 'Boy Meets World' spinoff
Ben Savage and Danielle Fishel, who starred as middle- and high-school lovebirds and later married couple Cory Matthews and Topanga Lawrence in the 1990s sitcom "Boy Meets World," are reprising their roles in the upcoming sequel series, "Girl Meets World."
A Disney Channel rep acknowledged Tuesday to The Washington Post that the series is in "development" and that a pilot will be produced by Michael Jacobs, who co-created the 1993-2000 ABC series with April Kelly.
"I'm going to be a father! Well, on TV at least," Savage, 32, tweeted, after weeks of rumors about the show. "The 'Boy Meets World' sequel is officially happening!"
"Making the decision to do the show involved more conversations than you can possibly imagine," Fishel, 31, told "Boy Meets World" fans on her Tumblr page. She added that "when the news leaked that GMW was in the making, literally days after I first heard about the project myself, Michael Jacobs and I had a conversation and we talked about how we were both so blown away by the reactions from all of you."
Us Weekly and others reported that the series will center on Cory and Topanga's 13-year-old daughter, Riley, and that casting for the role is under way.
