Peekskill group to stage jazzy 'Nutcracker'

Andrea Elam and the Synapses Dance Ensemble will present excerpts of "A Snowy Night in Peekskill," a jazz and modern interpretation of "The Nutcracker" set in the 1940s, at 3 p.m. Saturday.

The event is being hosted by EMBARK Peekskill, a coalition of artists working to establish a performing and literary arts center downtown, at its offices at 925 South St. in Peekskill.

A suggested donation of $5 per person will benefit Fred's Pantry, a food bank at Peekskill's St. Peter's Episcopal Church. In addition to the performance, there will be music, food and treats for children.

People planning to attend are asked to contact Elam, an EMBARK board member, at aelam@hotmail.com, or call EMBARK at 914-671-7772.
