5 New Year's resolutions for Hudson Valley celebrities

With 2012 turning to 2013 at midnight, it's time to make (and commit) to New Year's resolutions.

The following five resolutions don't come from the celebrities themselves. They're just what we at Newsday Westchester would love to see from the Hudson Valley's most prominent stars ... although it wouldn't kill them if they listened to our suggestions.

So, here's to 2013 and all its possibilities.

Beyoncé: Tweet more

Arguably showbiz's most high-profile multitasker these days, Ms. Knowles seems to have time for everything: performing at the Super Bowl, directing a documentary about herself, scoring a $50 million cola deal, and, oh yeah, the whole singing thing. The one thing that seems to have suffered in the process? The Scarsdale homeowner's Twitter account. Beyoncé has posted just four tweets — one in April and three in August — to more than 6.7 million followers. I was fortunate enough to spot one of these in time for that edition of the Hudson Valley Tweets of the Week, but breaking her Twitter silence would make even the most mundane posts about her coffee or the weather newsworthy.

Kate and Rooney Mara: Team up for a stage or screen project

The Mara sisters, who grew up in Bedford, may be the best pair of young siblings on the acting circuit. Rooney turned heads and scored an Oscar nod for her title role in "The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo," and Kate has snagged a lead in the buzzworthy "House of Cards," Netflix's first original series. Both thespians have the chops, so why not ask for too much of a good thing by having them join forces for a movie or limited-engagement Broadway run? Even as sisters, their contrasting styles would make whatever they do together a must-see.

Ron Howard, Jason Bateman and Jessica Walter: Get those new "Arrested Development" episodes to fans as soon as possible

Speaking of Netflix, "AD" fans have done everything but burn down banana stands in anticipation of the long-awaited return of the Bluth family. Howard, an Armonk resident, will again produce and narrate the adventures of Michael Bluth (Bateman, a Rye native), his mother Lucille (Walter, who owns a Pound Ridge home) and the rest of the Bluths, who return to Netflix subscribers' homes sometime in 2013 — but never soon enough.

Bill Murray: Make random cameos in the Hudson Valley

And, no, hanging out with Culinary Institute of America alumnus Anthony Bourdain at X2O in Yonkers doesn't count. I'm thinking more along the lines of crashing a kickball game already in progress, as he did on Roosevelt Island in October. If Murray can be coaxed out of his Palisades home, maybe he'll sing the national anthem at a minor-league ballpark in the Hudson Valley, do an unannounced comedy set at Levity Live or guest-bartend on the Newburgh Waterfront. (Which of those options sounds like the most fun to you? Vote in the poll below, and maybe he'll take that into account.)

Meryl Streep: Teach a master class at Vassar College

If Streep isn't on your list of the greatest actors of this or any generation, your list is wrong. A 17-time Academy Award nominee and three-time Oscar winner with nothing left to prove on screen, how cool would it be for the Vassar alumna to return to her roots and teach an acting course at her alma mater in Poughkeepsie? I might re-enroll for that reason alone. Professor Streep could even invite other former Vassar students in Anne Hathaway, Jane Fonda, Justin Long and Lisa Kudrow to student-teach.
