'American Chopper,' filmed in Orange County, ending run

'American Chopper,' the reality TV hit that chronicled custom-motorcycle shops in Newburgh and Rock Tavern, will end Dec. 11 after a decade-long run, according to Entertainment Weekly.

The magazine quoted Eileen O'Neill, the group president of Discovery and TLC Networks, as the bearer of bad news for fans of the show.

“After 10 years and 233 episodes of incredible, riveting reality television, American Chopper will be ending its run,” O’Neill said. “This series was one of the very first family-based reality programs on television ... The Teutuls have given us really innovative bike builds and real drama since 2002. We wish both Orange County Choppers and Paul Junior Designs the best."

Through the years, the show has seen Paul Teutul Sr. and Jr. duke it out while they created impressive bikes for high-profile clients, charities and everyday chopper enthusiasts. At the start, they both worked out of Orange County Choppers in Newburgh, but as tensions boiled over — and lawsuits were exchanged — Paul Jr. opened his own shop, Paul Jr. Designs, in nearby Rock Tavern.

Arguments have lessened of late between father and son, evident from one of the photos Paul Jr. tweeted last month, and all signs point to a peaceful conclusion as the series rides off into the sunset.
