In our never-ending quest to keep you informed about where you can cool off in the Hudson Valley, here’s the scoop on Belleayre Beach, a unique summer destination on the shores of Pine Hill Lake in Ulster County.
During the winter, this man-made lake contributes snow to nearby ski mecca Belleayre Mountain. But in summer months, it's transformed into a beach oasis, with fresh sand brought in every year or two to maintain its quality.
In addition to swimming and sunning, waterside activities inlclude fishing and boating. Visitors can rent row boats ($6 per hour or $12 per 4 hours), pedal boats and kayaks ($6 per hour and available by the hour only). There are also volleyball nets, basketball courts, horseshoe pits and areas for picnicking.
For the kids, Aqua School at Belleayre Beach is in its fifth year of providing aquatics lessons for children ages 4 and up. Classes begin in July and conclude in August ($80 per student).
Keep checking back at the Hudson Buzz, as we’ll continue to bring you the coolest waterside activities in the area all summer long.
