'Chaplin,' 'The Anarchist' set to close on Broadway

“Chaplin” and “The Anarchist,” two Broadway productions that feature local actors, are closing soon.

“Chaplin,” a musical biography about screen legend Charlie Chaplin, will close Jan. 6 after a four-month run on The Great White Way. Zachary Unger, a 9-year-old actor from Westchester County who trained at Random Farms Kids’ Theatre in Elmsford, originated the roles of young Chaplin and Jackie Coogan.

Even with “Chaplin” ending its Broadway run, producers are planning a national tour of the show for 2014.

“The Anarchist,” a new play by David Mamet, is arguably the biggest flop on Broadway this season. The play, which stars Irvington resident Debra Winger and Patti Lupone, is closing Dec. 16, only two weeks after it premiered. Newsday's theater critic Linda Winer had praise for the show's stars but called "The Anarchist" the "most severe" of Mamet's plays and "needlessly opaque."
