Could Maya Rudolph join The Roots at The Cap?

"Saturday Night Live" alumna Maya Rudolph is fronting The Roots this Thursday for a set of Prince songs at Brooklyn Bowl, which makes Newsday Westchester wonder if the "Up All Night" star might make this a two-day affair with a follow-up show at The Capitol Theatre in Port Chester.

Thursday's gig in Brooklyn was confirmed via The Roots' Facebook page and drummer Questlove's Twitter account. But there are a few tertiary trends that may hint at a second engagement in Westchester:

-Brooklyn Bowl is co-owned by Peter Shapiro, who owns The Cap.

-Rudolph's gig with the Roots is just a day before the band's Sept. 21 show at The Cap.

-Whether it's for their own shows or as the band of choice for "Late Night with Jimmy Fallon," the Roots have always been open to collaborations, ranging from Bruce Springsteen to Carly Rae Jepsen.

-For the first of four Friday-night shows after the reopening The Cap, the Roots were expected to co-headline the show with Grateful Dead co-founder Bob Weir, but wound up surprising ticket-holders by adding Phish frontman and longtime Rockland County resident Trey Anastasio, Gov't Mule guitarist Warren Haynes, Grace Potter and Bobby Keys to the bill. The Roots' show this Friday is expected to feature guest act Karl Denson's Tiny Universe, but could Rudolph be an unannounced guest?

-The daughter of "Loving You" songstress Minnie Riperton, Rudolph loves singing, and too often has done so for comedic purposes. (Her "SNL" rendition of the national anthem is a highlight.) But maybe she'll be so inspired by her (relatively) serious performance Thursday that she'll want to do it all over again in Westchester the next night.

That said, there are a few arguments against a Rudolph cameo at The Cap, the most notable one being that it's not being reported or promoted anywhere accordingly. Oh, well. Maybe this post will inspire her to do so. There's still time to buy a ticket on the New Haven line, Maya!

Whether or not Rudolph shows up at The Cap this week, which Prince song would you most want to hear her perform? Vote in the poll below, or leave your own answer in the comments section.
