Date night: Maggie Spillane's Ale House in Mount Vernon

Looking for somewhere new to go at night? Here at Hudson Buzz we've decided to offer up suggestions for the best nightlife in the region on a regular basis. This "after dark" series will feature great venues for date nights, girls-and-guys nights out, spots for singles and everything in between.

First up is Maggie Spillane's Ale House in Mount Vernon, a spot perfect for a casual date night (571 Gramatan Ave., Mount Vernon; 914-699-8900; maggiespillanes.com). A cross between an Irish pub and an intimate lounge, Maggie’s is a cozy spot to spend some quality time with your significant other.

The year-old venue offers attentive service, delicious fare and a relaxed atmosphere. And let's not forget the pièce de résistance — a rooftop bar backlit with vibrant lights that shine brightly against the dark Mount Vernon sky.

“You feel like you’re on vacation,” said Peggy Maher, the manager at Maggie’s. “It’s relaxed, so you feel comfortable.”

With 16 beers on tap and a wide array of signature cocktails, Maggie’s offers the perfect cure to Westchester’s summertime heat. Outside of the festive lights, the rooftop is festooned with big screen TVs. The menu carries most Irish-American pub fare: sweet potato fries, sliders and Dublin style fish and chips.

If you're looking for more than just dinner and drinks, Maggie’s hosts karaoke night on Wednesdays, trivia night on Thursdays, and a DJ or live band every Friday and Saturday night.

According to Maher, Maggie's is a great spot for date night because the staff and patrons are always friendly and accommodating.

"It just has a really good vibe," she said.
