Edward Burns to screen new movie tonight in Pleasantville

Edward Burns — who wrote, directed and starred in his breakout 1995 movie "The Brothers McMullen" — will head to the Jacob Burns Film Center in Pleasantville for tonight's screening of his new film, "The Fitzgerald Family Christmas."

Both films feature families with working-class, Irish-American heritage and co-star Connie Britton, who's become one of the best dramatic actresses on television via "Friday Night Lights," "American Horror Story" and "Nashville."

In "The Fitzgerald Family Christmas" (Tribeca Film, 103 min.), siblings cope with the sudden return of their estranged father, who'd left the family 20 years earlier. The movie won't have a wider release until Dec. 7, but Burns (the actor) will be at the Burns (the theater) tonight to screen and discuss the movie, as well provide the "A" for the Q&A with film critic Janet Maslin.

The sold-out event at the JBFC (364 Manville Rd., Pleasantville, 914-747-5555, www.burnsfilmcenter.org) starts tonight at 7:30, but a standby line will form an hour before showtime for those hoping to snag unclaimed tickets. (If seats should open up, they'll be $15 for nonmembers and $10 for members.)
