The Golden Globe nominations will be announced Thursday morning, and Newsday Westchester is taking a look at which local movie stars could receive nods. (For our take on which local TV actors could earn Golden Globes nominations, go here.)

A quartet of A-list actors with Hudson Valley ties could score nominations in the lead actor category. The frontrunners are Mount Vernon native Denzel Washington for his role as an alcoholic pilot in “Flight” and Palisades resident Bill Murray, who depicted President Franklin D. Roosevelt in “Hyde Park on Hudson.” The versatile actor might even receive an additional nod for his supporting turn in “Moonrise Kingdom.”

Other local actors who also could be nominated are Bedford resident Richard Gere as a crooked tycoon in “Arbitrage” and Daniel Craig as 007 in the latest James Bond film, “Skyfall.”

Craig’s wife, Rachel Weisz, whom he wed in Stone Ridge in 2011 and with whom he reportedly owns a home in Saugerties, also could earn a Golden Globe nomination for her critically acclaimed lead role in “The Deep Blue Sea.”

A pair of actresses who attended Vassar College could also get Golden Globe nods. Anne Hathaway, who was briefly enrolled at Vassar, is a shoo-in to receive a nomination for her supporting role as Fantine in “Les Miserables,” and her “Devil Wears Prada” co-star Meryl Streep, a Vassar alum, just might be nominated in the lead actress category for the comedy “Hope Springs.”

For the Best Director category, two auteurs with Hudson Valley ties have a chance to score nominations. Expect Oscar winner Ang Lee, a Larchmont resident, to be named a Best Director nominee for “Life of Pi.” Hastings High graduate Benh Zeitlin also could receive a nod for helming the hit indie film “Beasts of the Southern Wild,” as well as earn nominations for Best Adapted Screenplay and Best Original Score.

Check back here Thursday, when we’ll have the rundown of local movie and TV stars who have been nominated for Golden Globes.
