Golden Globes: Hudson Valley TV stars vie for nominations

With Golden Globe Award nominations slated to be announced Thursday morning, Newsday Westchester focuses on Hudson Valley hopefuls who could receive nods in television categories.
The Hollywood Foreign Press Association loves its movie stars — even when they're up for TV awards. Want proof? Academy Award-winning actress Jessica Lange won a Golden Globe in January for her first season of "American Horror Story."
But since Lange, who has called Palisades home, isn't likely to repeat this year (because season two doesn't wrap until after the Jan. 13 ceremony), other Hudson Valley actors will have to step up. Among other film stars, expect lead-actor nominations for Stone Ridge resident Steve Buscemi ("Boardwalk Empire") and northern Westchester County resident Glenn Close ("Damages").
That's not to say actresses who are better known for their TV prowess won't have a shot. Spring Valley native Julianna Margulies ("The Good Wife") and Edie Falco ("Nurse Jackie") have each won the award, so they're nearly shoo-ins for repeat nominations.
Dutchess County resident David Strathairn also could be recognized with a nomination for his supporting role in the HBO film "Hemingway & Gellhorn," especially after the Hollywood Foreign Press Association nominated him for "Temple Grandin" in 2010.
Hudson Valley actors who might just snag their first Golden Globe nominations include Palisades native Hayden Panettiere ("Nashville"), Dobbs Ferry native Max Greenfield ("New Girl"), Scarsdale native Peter Scolari ("Girls") and Sarah Lawrence College alumna Merritt Wever ("Nurse Jackie"). Greenfield and Wever's chances are buoyed by their 2012 Emmy nominations, and Panettiere and Scolari have impressed on new series with critical acclaim.
Tomorrow, Newsday Westchester will look into the local movie stars who have the best shot of earning Golden Globe nominations.
