Hudson Valley stars react to Emmys on Twitter

Although Hudson Valley actors went home empty-handed following last night's Emmy Awards ceremony, many celebrities took to Twitter to weigh in on Sunday night's winners and festivities.

Among the regional stars to be nominated, most were silent after the ceremony, but a few had some thoughts to share.

Right before the show started, "New Girl" star and Dobbs Ferry native Max Greenfield let a picture do the talking, retweeting a photo taken by "Modern Family's" Jesse Tyler Ferguson. The photo shows the two, arm in arm, with the caption, "Lovers and Foes," the latter of which likely referring to their facing off in the category for supporting actor in a comedy. Both would go on to watch Ferguson's co-star, Eric Stonestreet, win the award.

Although it might not have been a surprise that "The Daily Show" won its 10th consecutive Emmy for variety series, Saugerties High School grad Jimmy Fallon was gracious in defeat. "Congrats to @thedailyshow," he tweeted. "Good people." Later in the evening, the talk-show host gave a shout-out to an Emmy-winning "Boardwalk Empire" director who didn't pick up his trophy. "Had a great time at the Emmys," Fallon tweeted. "Just bummed that Tim Van Patten didn't make it."

Presenter and Armonk resident Ron Howard posted a photo of himself in the reflection of an elevator en route to the Emmys, where he led a tribute to the late Andy Griffith. Howard also gave followers a sneak peek at the Emmys' backstage area, and cheered the victory of his "Apollo 13" colleague Tom Hanks, who won an Emmy for producing HBO's "Game Change."

"Congrats to my buddy Tom hanks for Game Change deserved win (and great speech)," Howard tweeted. "Also ['Game Change'] director Jay Roach for excellent work."

But not every local celebritiy to tweet about last night's ceremony appeared at the ceremony.

Nyack resident Rosie O'Donnell raved about several victors, including a "very deserved" Emmy for Claire Danes, who won for Showtime's "Homeland," and a cheer for Julianne Moore, whose take on Sarah Palin in "Game Change" proved to be award-winning as well. O'Donnell also played along with host Jimmy Kimmel's social-media gag, in which he encouraged viewers to pretend that "30 Rock" star Tracy Morgan passed out on stage. She also showed some Twitter love for "Jessie" during the broadcast, although it's not clear if she was praising Ferguson or digging Aaron Paul's Emmy-winning take as Jesse Pinkman on "Breaking Bad."

Another celebrity with Rockland ties made her opinion about Paul crystal clear. "The Next" host Allison Hagendorf, who hails from New City, replied to Paul's tweet thanking fans for their support. "Congrats #AaronPaul on a well-deserved win for #BreakingBad," she tweeted.

Bedford resident Chazz Palminteri lauded "Modern Family's" repeat victory in the comedy series, giving himself and the show a plug in the process. "Congratulation to MODERN FAMILY wining [sic] best comedy," he tweeted. "I will be back on as shorty on the [season premiere] next Wednesday. Watch it."

Comedy scribe Lauren Caltagirone, a Cortlandt Manor native who writes for the Fallon-produced "Guys With Kids," posts under the Twitter handle @MrsRupertPupkin. She had a more personal take on the Emmys, one that had nothing to do with specific winners or details from the ceremony.

"The Emmys remind me of how I've never won anything & nobody wants to wife me up," she tweeted. "#Emmys #Cats."
