'Key & Peele' renewed for third season

No need to call Luther, "Key & Peele" fans, as Comedy Central announced today that the sketch series starring Keegan-Michael Key and former Sarah Lawrence College student Jordan Peele will return next fall with 13 more episodes.

The tandem is perhaps best known for its recurring sketch in which President Barack Obama (Peele) allows his "anger translator" Luther (Key) to state what the president is really feeling but isn't allowed to verbalize.

Kent Alterman, head of the comedy cable channel's original programming and production department, said via news release that "Since Obama won re-election, it only seems fair that we would give ‘Key and Peele’ another season."

The comic duo appeared even more excited. “We are so thrilled about the pickup and want to thank Comedy Central for FOUR MORE YEARS!” they were quoted as saying in the release. “Oh wait, what’s that? One more year? Oh. OK, that will work, too.”

Before "Key & Peele," Peele offered his spot-on impersonation of Obama in an audition for "Saturday Night Live" but didn't make the cast.

"Everything apparently happens for a reason," he told Newsday Westchester in September. "It's great to be able to own what we're doing, as opposed to living under the thumb of producers for five more years."

This season's finale airs Wednesday at 10:30 p.m., and it features this phenomenal sketch of one-upmanship, which I first saw as an audience member for the comedians' New York Comedy Festival show earlier in November.

If this is any indicator, season three is going to be pretty amazing.
