Matchbox Twenty to play Poughkeepsie show Saturday

Fronted by Bedford resident Rob Thomas, Matchbox Twenty will rock the house with a sold-out concert Saturday at the Mid-Hudson Civic Center in Poughkeepsie.

Last year was a good one for Matchbox Twenty, which saw its latest album, "North," top the Billboard chart for the first time in the rock band's history, and yield a Top-40 hit in "Mean."

"In a lot of ways, it means more to us now than it would have at another time," Thomas told Newsday Westchester in October. "Sixteen years in to have our first No. 1 record. We were stunned and unbelievably happy about it."

The year was also an especially busy one for Thomas, who, when he wasn't touring or headlining WPLJ's annual benefit for Blythedale Children's Hospital in Valhalla, served as a coach for Cee Lo Green's team on "The Voice" last season.

Saturday's performance at the Mid-Hudson Civic Center (14 Civic Center Plaza, Poughkeepsie, 845-454-5800, www.midhudsonciviccenter.org) also starts at 8 p.m.
Matt Hires is scheduled to open.

On Tuesday, the band played a sold-out show at Port Chester's Capitol Theatre.
