The world waited Wednesday to see who would emerge as the new head of the Catholic Church. Among the curious were celebrities who have called the Hudson Valley home and took to Twitter to share their thoughts.
In chronological order, here are some of the most interesting tweets from Wednesday's big reveal.
As white smoke began to billow from the Vatican's chimney, signaling to the world that a new pope has been chosen, it caught the attention of former Yankees catcher John Flaherty, who grew up in West Nyack.

It was then that Cardinal Jorge Mario Bergoglio, the archbishop of Buenos Aires, emerged on a Vatican balcony and assumed the name Francis to lead the church. The announcement excited celebrity chef Mario Batali, who owns Tarry Lodge Restaurant in Port Chester.
