Richard Gere, Susan Sarandon star in 'Arbitrage'
The high-stakes thriller “Arbitrage,” in theaters Friday, features two A-list actors from the Hudson Valley -- Richard Gere and Susan Sarandon.
Bedford resident Gere is winning raves for his portrayal of Robert Miller, a crooked Manhattan tycoon whose personal and professional life is unraveling, and his race against time to keep his good fortune from falling apart.
Sarandon, who owns a home in Pound Ridge, co-stars as Miller’s wife Ellen. The actress has played Gere’s wife once before, in the 2004 film “Shall We Dance?” In that movie, her character was unaware that her husband was taking dance lessons. In "Arbitrage," the secrets are much darker: Ellen is oblivious to Robert's secret mistress and shady business dealings, both of which threaten their luxurious livelihoods.
Even though both Westchester-based actors play privileged 1 percenters in the film, in real life they’re known for their dedication to social causes. Gere is a longtime human rights and environmental activist, and Sarandon, a UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador, is as famous for her outspoken activism as she is for her Oscar-winning career.
This time around, Gere is the one receiving Oscar buzz for his new film. Check out the trailer for “Arbitrage”:
