Act: The Roots
Dates: Sept. 7, 14, 21
Info: The house band for NBC’s “Late Night with Jimmy Fallon” (whose host hails from Saugerties) played The Capitol Theatre on three nights in September, and all of their gigs will be followed by DJ ?uestlove’s Cap Train Party. Their Sept. 28 concert date was postponed and will be rescheduled.
"Late Night with Jimmy Fallon" has opened most episodes with its house band, the Roots, showing love for fans in different parts of the country. And if trends hold true, the Hudson Valley is due for some of that love this year.
For years, the Roots have announced the show's episode number near the coda of the show's theme song. Sometime in 2010, shortly after the show tallied a couple hundred episodes, the band began shouting out a city or region associated with the episode number's corresponding area code.
Tonight's episode is No. 760, which means it won't be long before much of the Hudson Valley (845) and, more specifically, Westchester County (914), could get the Roots' shout-out treatment. Assuming the 2013 taping schedule is comparable to last year's, look for episode No. 845 to air in late May (I'm estimating May 25), with episode No. 914 airing in early October (on or around Oct. 8).
There are a few internal incentives for the Roots to do show some love for these regions. Fallon was raised in Saugerties, reppin' the 8-4-5. And "Late Night" show runner Michael Shoemaker lives in Westchester, so there's hope for the 9-1-4, too.
Even if the Roots opt not to shout out the Hudson Valley, they've already done their part with live performances here. The Roots played consecutive Friday night shows at The Capitol Theatre in Port Chester, shortly after the renovated venue reopened in September.
