SiriusXM gets Nick Di Paolo-Artie Lange show

A Massachusetts native who once roomed in New York City with Louis C.K., Di Paolo's current home inspired a comedy bit about pesky Westchester County deer.

The sports talk radio show hosted by northern Westchester County resident Nick Di Paolo and former Howard Stern sidekick Artie Lange will make its SiriusXM debut this week.

Normally airing weeknights from 10 p.m. to 1 a.m. via Internet stream and a few terrestrial radio outlets, the first SiriusXM airing of "The Nick & Artie Show" is scheduled for 8 to 10 a.m. Thursday, when the two will do a special live show from the Hard Rock Cafe in Times Square. It’s not the first time Lange has celebrated a move to satellite radio there; he was at the venue when Stern had a similar celebration to celebrate his last day on terrestrial radio.

On Sirius, “Nick & Artie” will air on channel 94; on XM, channel 208.

With all due respect to Di Paolo, a celebrated comic’s comic who’s spent years refining his radio approach, this is particularly good news for Lange, who’s in the midst of a remarkable comeback, both professionally and personally. After sitting next to Stern for most of the previous decade, Lange's admitted struggles with drug addiction led him to leave the show. Soon after his departure he suffered self-inflicted stab wounds and spent eight months in a psychiatric ward. He’s recently returned to the stage, the late-night talk-show circuit and, as of September, to daily radio broadcasts via “Nick & Artie.”

Just a few days ago, I chatted with Lange, who’s headlining shows at Levity Live in Rockland County on July 28 and 29. He raved about his experiences with Di Paolo, on and off the air.

“Nick is one of the funniest guys, but something Nick Di Paolo is — and something I respect — Nick never wavers from what his opinion is,” Lange told me. “Nick is never phony. As a matter fact, it’s not in his blood. It’s impossible for him to be phony in a business where so many people have to be phony to get by.”
