The Ramones filmed 'Pet Sematary' video in Sleepy Hollow

This Halloween, let's take a look back on a frightfully amusing moment in Hudson Valley music history: The Ramones' music video for "Pet Sematary."

In 1989, the punk pioneers sojourned to Sleepy Hollow to film the music video, which wound up being far more funny than frightful.

On a website promoting tourism in Sleepy Hollow and Tarrytown, Sleepy Hollow Cemetery historian Jim Logan chronicles the fright night in question: "It was a frigid night in January 1989 when the band filmed the music video for their musical tribute to Stephen King’s novel 'Pet Sematary,'" Logan wrote. "As part of the act, the band performed in an open grave."

Back when MTV was still truly "Music Television," it aired a behind-the-scenes segment on the making of the video. Who knew King was such a big Ramones fan?

And now for the sad postscript: Three of the Ramones — Joey, Dee Dee and Johnny — have since passed away (and, no, they aren't buried in Sleepy Hollow). Marky Ramone, the last remaining member of the best-known lineup, is still alive to remind us that Sheena remains a punk rocker.
