Celebrities from the Hudson Valley kept things interesting on Twitter in 2012, and Newsday Westchester was there to track down the best tweets of the bunch.

10. Hayden Panettiere

Remember when Palisades native Hayden Panettiere had a sneaky/snaky surprise for "Live with Kelly and Michael" host Michael Strahan?

Even if Kelly Ripa and Strahan saw (or were briefed about) this tweet ahead of time, they certainly looked surprised when the prank went down.

9. Carly Rose Sonenclar

Mamaroneck's fastest-rising star had avoided butting heads with the occasionally critical  Demi Lovato on "The X Factor" — until one backstage exchange in December.

I had more puns about head injuries, but I'll leave those to Austin Powers.

8. Bobby Moynihan

Right before Eastchester native Bobby Moynihan kicked off his fifth season as a cast member on "Saturday Night Live," his mind might have been elsewhere.

When Moynihan's focused on "SNL," however, he's got a lot to say, as evidenced by Newsday Westchester's recent Q&A.

7. Jimmy Fallon

From an "SNL" star to an "SNL" alum, Saugerties native Jimmy Fallon didn't just ask his viewers to play along with "Late Night's" hashtag games: He provided a few of his own. Here's one of his best, or at least one of the most viscerally powerful.

I'm still wondering if he figured this out via sight, sound and/or taste. Regardless, yuck.

6. Pete Dominick

Congers comedian Pete Dominick reminded us about the reality of communication in 2012.

After the beep, leave a message that will sit there for pretty much forever.

5. Lauren Caltagirone

Known to some as @MrsRupertPupkin, this Cortlandt Manor native and Hendrick Hudson High School grad's Twitter alter ego has her share of troubles when it comes to snagging a man.

In reality, Caltagirone is a charming writer for the Fallon-produced "Guys with Kids." For more about her rise to success, thanks in part to her Twitter account, check out Newsday Westchester's feature on her. Her cats, Harris and Austin, will thank you.

4. Joan Rivers

When Larchmont native Joan Rivers toured the United Kingdom in October, she found it tough to stick to her diet.

One of her stops on that U.K. tour was "The Graham Norton Show," which she absolutely dominated. If you can catch a rerun on BBC America, it's a must-watch, if only to watch Jake Gyllenhaal bury his face in his hands every time she said something raunchy — which was almost every time she spoke.

3. Donald Trump and Rosie O'Donnell (tie)

It was so short-lived that you might have missed it, but there was a brief detente this summer between Nyack resident Rosie O'Donnell and real estate magnate Donald Trump, who owns a good chunk of property in the Hudson Valley, and, perhaps, one iota of O'Donnell's aorta following her heart attack.

I wish it didn't take life-threatening situations for people to put aside their differences, but no matter how you feel about either party in this conversation, you have to admit this is rather amusing.

2. Evan Kessler

National Lampoon contributor Evan Kessler, a Ramapo High School grad who grew up in Pomona, pondered the geopolitical spectrum mere hours before Election Day.

Maybe we should just be happy he used the correct title for Canada's head of state.

Dobbs Ferry native Max Greenfield has the year's top Hudson Valley tweet as his friend waves goodbye to 2012.
