Yonkers LEGOLAND launches search for 12 kid consultants
An online search is under way to find 12 children ages 6-12 to serve as ambassadors for LEGOLAND Discovery Center Westchester opening this spring in Yonkers.
Those selected for the Junior Construction Panel will work alongside master model builder Mike Tocidlowski to help finish the new LEGO models at the indoor attraction and offer suggestions about what to include at the $12 million center.
"We are excited to find imaginative and passionate youngsters to be part of our Junior Construction Panel," Chris Mines, general manager of LEGOLAND Discovery Center Westchester, said in a news release Monday. "The panel gives kids the opportunity to work with Mike, express their creativity and input and give their seal of approval on the attraction."
Children selected for the panel will receive a special LEGO set and an annual pass to the center, scheduled to open March 27 at the Ridge Hill shopping center. In addition, the school with the most entries will be entered for a chance to win a visit from Tocidlowski.
Entrants will be judged on creativity, enthusiasm for LEGO and their LEGO models. The competition closes Jan. 28, and the Junior Construction Panel will be announced by Feb. 11.
To apply for a spot on the panel, entrants must:
• With the help of a parent, guardian or teacher, create a news video no longer than 90 seconds about why they are the tristate area's biggest LEGO fan or about a LEGO model they've built.
• Start their videos with the line, "My name is (insert name) and I am a LEGOLAND Discovery Center minimodel builder and I want to be on the Junior Construction Panel because ..."
• Upload videos to YouTube and fill out a form at http://on.fb.me/TGSyaP on Legoland Discovery Center Westchester's Facebook page that requires information including the name, city and state of the entrant's school; a parent, guardian or teacher's email address; and the YouTube URL of the video.
Applicants also can email their entry to WestchesterJCP@legolanddiscoverycenter.com and LEGOLAND Discovery Center Westchester will upload the video to YouTube.
