Birdsall House
970 Main St. Peekskill, NY 914-930-1880
Chris Serico
A convivial gastro pub with gutsy yet sophisticated food, Birdsall House occupies a revamped turn-of-the-century watering hole in the center of Peekskill. It resembles and a fine old dining tavern with a long, wide wood bar, red leather booths and period pendant lights. There is an ever-changing roster of 20 regional drafts with loopy names (Dogfish Head Sport, Six Point Bengali Tiger). Much of the provender is locally sourced and the menu changes daily. Typical dishes: a fine charcuterie plate, mostly made in-house, pancetta-wrapped rabbit loin salad, biscuits and gravy (trumpet mushrooms, braised collard greens and a poached egg) and maple-glazed pork belly. If you are not a suds groupie, check out the cool cocktail list. -Bryan Miller
