Bistro Rollin bills itself as an American bistro, whatever that is. But in fact, it’s about as French as it gets. The space is long and spare, with light wood floors, dark wainscoting, a small café bar, and large mirrors that make it look much larger. Out front is a large patio framed by herbs and flowers.
This a family owned effort, and it shows. The food is lovingly prepared and presented, and the staff is eager to please no matter what it takes.
You’ll find mussels steamed in beer with curry, frisée au lardon (a chickory-like salad with bacon and a poached egg), pan roasted skate with celery root purée, hanger steak with shallots and French fries, classic onion soup, and crème caramel. There are many good wines by the glass for under $10. The list of bottles is moderately priced as well. -Bryan Miller
