Don’t be surprised if you stop and stare at Kumo’s spectacular bar, whose color-shifting backlighting and reflective ceiling provide much-needed metropolitan chic to Clarkstown Plaza. Tops here are sushi, sashimi and specialty rolls, including the Spicy Girl Roll (spicy salmon, tuna, yellowtail and avocado) and the Crazy Roll (spicy, crunchy tuna and avocado topped with black pepper tuna, scallion and tobiko). Kumo is a favorite area spot among pro athletes -- NFL players Brandon Jacobs, Chase Blackburn and Henry Hynoski have enjoyed the Kumo experience enough to pose for the photos posted at the edge of the bar. Lunch specials range from $8 (a sansai udon or soba entree with salad) to $16 (six pieces of sashimi, four pieces of sushi, soup, salad and a tuna or California roll). -Chris Serico
