Ocean House
49 N. Riverside Ave. Croton-on-Hudson, NY 914-271-0702
Housed in a 1920s style diner that now resembles a 1950s Nantucket fish shack, this delightful spot is a destination for lovingly prepared seafood. The dining room is long and narrow — only 19 seats — with two rows of wooden tables and ocean blue banquettes. In the center is a small oyster bar. The menu changes with the daily catch and can run from crab cakes and fried oysters to Scottish salmon with wild mushrooms and vinaigrette, fried cornmeal-crusted catfish with mustard beurre blanc and shrimp cassoulet (white beans, chorizo, garlic, tomato and saffron broth.) As the restaurant lacks a liquor license, you can bring your own wine or beer. There is a $4 corkage fee. -Bryan Miller
