The Eleanor Roosevelt National Historic Site in Hyde Park gives visitors a chance to look into the life and personal beliefs of one of America's most famous first ladies. Eleanor Roosevelt built her retreat home, Val-Kill, in 1924, to be an office and "laboratory" for social change, which dominated the last four decades of her life. She lived and worked at Val-Kill until her death in 1962. The Eleanor Roosevelt National Historic Site is the only historic site dedicated to a first lady.
