Fox fall schedule: 'Sleepy Hollow' gets big push

Jack Bauer to return: Fox announces '24: Live Another Day'

Yes, Jack Bauer had unfinished business and now he'll have 12 episodes to finish it. Fox has officially announced the return of "24," with Kiefer Sutherland onboard, of course. His series "Touch" was ended Friday, and the long-aborning "24" movie now appears to be permanently on ice. For fans of course, a final TV run is much preferred anyway.
Fox Entertainment chief, Kevin Reilly, told the press a little while ago the return of "24" will begin May 2014 — which means this will be a summer series — saying it will be "compressed" over 12 weeks.
The title: "24: Live another Day"
“The response to ‘24’ is unlike anything I have ever experienced as an actor before,” said Sutherland in a statement. “To have the chance to reunite with the character, Jack Bauer, is like finding a lost friend. The story ideas from Howard Gordon are exciting and fresh, and will not disappoint. Great thanks to 20th Century Fox Television, Imagine Television and the FOX network for this opportunity. Make no mistake, my goal is to knock your socks off. See you soon.”
Howard Gordon is the man behind this rebirth: He's also "Homeland's" showrunner.
“Jack Bauer has always been an exciting, thrilling character, and I confess that I’ve missed him. I think the audience has too,” he said in a statement. “The character has evolved through the years, and this new and exciting event series format is perfect to tell the next chapter of his story and continue to reflect how the world is changing. Fans can rest assured that the Jack they know and love will be back.”
Where will this project land? Obviously Monday would be the most likely day, perhaps at 8 p.m., even though 9 would be optimum. "Sleepy Hollow" has that real estate for the fall, and "The Following" has it next spring. "Bones" will be holding down 8 only for a little while, which is why a May-into-summer run makes sense. Plus, at 12 hours, Jack effectively has one last half of a day to finish the run.
The series ended three years ago — May 24, 2010, to be exact.
Now the questions of who will return? Obviously, Mary Lynn Rajskub would need to be on board too, right?

So it really does look like the task of turning NBC around falls to Michael J. Fox next season: His new show will land on Thursdays at 9:30, the single most important time period on the entire schedule.

Big, exciting, fun, thrilling -and possibly even true - news is now washing over the network upfront discussions leading up to next week's fall schedule announcements: "24" may return as a limited run series on Fox.
This broke earlier on Deadlline - which has a habit of getting things right - and my cursory explorations into the matter have turned up this: That talks are certainly going on, but that any sort of deal is "premature." Nevertheless, this is Thursday night, and Fox won't be announcing its lineup until Monday - that's all the time in the world to make something happen.
Sources say there's certainly nothing to announce at the moment, but a series - and here we sail off into the seas of speculation - would supplant, or at least supplement, the long-in-development movie that fans have long been waiting for. That movie is believed to be on hold, in part because Howard Gordon - who was writing/developing - is so busy elsewhere, notably on a third season of Showtime's celebrated "Homeland."
Is Kiefer Sutherland on board? ("Touch" was cancelled earlier this afternoon by Fox; sorry to be the bearer of bad news. This was a good series.) Another unknown.
Meanwhile, this could also be one of those big teases that Fox Entertainment chief Kevin Reilly drops on the restless crowd - just after he announces a new "fix" for "Idol" - at the Beacon on Monday. "24 is coming back!" The crowd will love the idea - except that it may only be an idea for the time being.

Read more »Jon Stewart destroys CNN...but ignores Fox News

In the category of Shooting Dead Fish in a Barrel, Jon Stewart utterly demolished CNN on last night's "The Daily Show." No surpirse - CNN had one of the worst afternoons in its long history, reporting a "scoop" that a suspect had been arrested in the Boston Marathon bombing case when, in fact, there was no arrest, as various authorities stated, even as CNN was saying there was.
If you watched CNN, it was indeed ugly - John King reporting that this was as solid as it gets, until it all slowly unravelled. King and CNN later tried to cover up the gaff, by slowing removing screen supers, and then talking about how it was attempting to correlate all that was known...until it all fell apart, utterly.
But Stewart - unfairly in my opinion - doesn't mention that Fox News Channel - which didn't even bother to cover President Obama's emotional Rose Garden speech following the collapse of his proposed gun bill in the Senate - also reported in no uncertain terms that an arrest had been made. Fox held to line until it no longer could, but the Twittersphere completely ignored its gaff, instead focusing its fury on CNN. AP had also reported an arrest.
Too bad - there was plenty of blame to go around, while NBC News' Pete Williams and CBS News got it right....
'Glee's' 'Shooting Star' school shooting episode: Too soon?
"Glee” is taking a little heat for Thursday's episode, “Shooting Star,“ in which Becky (Lauren Potter) brings a gun to school and shoots it off. CNN reached out to one Newtown parent — whose children were not killed in the Dec. 14 attack — who essentially says it's way too soon.
