Ada Maria Isasi-Diaz (1943-2012)

Dr. Ada Maria Isasi-Diaz, 69, born in La Habana, Cuba, died May 13, 2012.

She moved to the U.S. in 1960 and was a former resident of Rochester. She graduated from Merici Academy and New Rochelle College and entered the Ursuline novitiate in Santa Rosa, Calif., in 1960.

She earned her master's in divinity and a doctorate in theology from Union Theological Seminary, in New York City. She worked as ethics and theology professor at Drew University and co-founded the Hispanic Theological Institute for training of Hispanic Theologians.

She was a prolific writer and completed eight books, including her seminal work "Mujerista Theology: a Theology for the 21st Century."

She leaves behind her mother, Josefina Diaz de Isasi, sisters, brothers, brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, her nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews, friends and the community of women she mentored and inspired.

A service was held May 19 at St. Thomas the Apostle Church, 7377 S.W. 64th St., Miami.
