Downed tree briefly cuts power to 1,930

A tree downed by gusty winds knocked down a power line along Route 306 in Pomona, cutting power to almost 2,000 customers, officials said.

The tree toppled over at 3:49 Sunday afternoon, blacking out 1,930 homes and businesses, said Orange & Rockland Utilities spokesman Mike Donovan. By 4:30 p.m., all but 300 of the affected customers had their service restored, he said.
