Store managers across the Hudson Valley were reporting surges in their sales numbers Friday night, a sign that Black Friday got the Christmas shopping season off to a strong start.

At the Target in West Nyack, manager Becca Wiggins said registers haven't stopped ringing since the stores opened at 9 p.m. on Thanksgiving Day.
