An unidentified man lying on the railroad tracks was killed Tuesday night by a southbound CSX freight train in the Town of Haverstraw, police said.

Haverstraw police Lt. Martin Lund said the driver of the locomotive pulling about 45 cars "tried to stop the train," but was unable brake in time.

The incident happened on the train line north of Gurnee Avenue about 9:45 p.m. and investigators...
