Sean Armand's 3-pointers lift Iona past Canisius

Sean Armand matched his career high with 32 points as Iona pulled away from Canisius 97-87 Sunday for its fifth straight win.

Armand, who came in ranked No. 5 in the nation with 59 3-pointers, was 9 of 15 from long range to surpass 200 career treys. The Gaels (11-6, 5-1 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference) made 16 of 33 3-ponters before a crowd of 2,094 at theĀ Hynes Center in New Rochelle.

Iona's Tre Bowman added a career-high 24 points.

The Gaels, who trailed by seven in the first half, opened the second half with an 8-0 run to lead 55-49.

The Golden Griffins (10-7, 3-3) pulled ahead 58-57, but A.J. English and Armand hit back-to-back 3-pointers. After Reggie Groves' 3-pointer got Canisius within two, David Laury scored five straight points to spark an 8-0 Iona run.

Harold Washington scored a season-high 26, and Billy Baron had 20 points and 11 assists for the Golden Griffins, who have lost four of their past five.
