NEW YORK, NY - JUNE 04: Family of Damien Powell hug during a vigil and rally near where Powell was recently shot and killed on June 4, 2013 in the Brooklyn borough of New York City. The rally was held by members of Save Our Streets (S.O.S.), a community-based effort to end gun violence. While shootings in New York City are down, seven people were killed and more than two dozen were shot last weekend in a spasm of violence that has many fearing for a violent summer. In response the New York Police Department (NYPD) has set up stationary observation towers, added patrols and put additional plainclothes officers in high crime neighborhoods. S.O.S. holds the gatherings at all shooting locations in Crown Heights to draw attention to the violence and to encourage a community response to the shootings.
