In a conference call Monday, Yankees GM Brian Cashman said first baseman Mark Teixeira is likely to find himself on the disabled list for the second time this year.

“I think giving him the extra week will make a lot more sense,” Cashman said. Teixeira left Saturday’s game against the Angels after reinjuring his right wrist. He is hitting .151 with three homers in 15 games.  ...

Governors Island administrators said last week's implosion of one of its oldest buildings was a Big Bang of sorts, signifying the start of a new era for the island.

The 30-acre section of the island that was once off-limits to civilians will be transformed into a new, modern $250 million park that's set to open for the public next summer, and there's more on the way.

And the excitement...

From 1941 to 1981, the Dodgers faced off against the Yankees in 11 World Series. But oddly enough, the team that once called Brooklyn home hasn’t visited either Yankee Stadium since winning the title-clinching Game 6 of the 1981 World Series; this despite the institution of interleague play in 1997.

Tonight, the Dodgers become the final franchise to visit the Bronx since interleague play began.

McMahon: NYC's high taxes should be a top mayoral issue

cand

New York's mayoral candidates have paid surprisingly little attention to one issue that really sets the Big Apple apart: an extraordinarily heavy tax burden.

No other big city in the country imposes such a broad array of taxes at such high levels, piling its own levies on top of those collected by Albany. For example, corporations pay a combined rate of 17.5 percent on net income allocated...

Never mind those controversial touches like tables and chairs in Times Square and the bike lanes all over town that have slyly elbowed their way into street space once the sole province of motor traffic.

We'll remember Mayor Michael Bloomberg for all of that -- but when he leaves office at year's end, what we may remember him for most is his policy on table scraps.

The mayor is ratcheting...

The country has a new Miss USA, but the real spotlight is on Miss Utah, whose bumbling answer to a question on income equality all but took the crown of the night.

Miss Utah, aka Marissa Powell, was asked by a judge at the pageant Sunday night about a recent report showing that women are the breadwinners in 40% of U.S. families, and what that "says about society."

Her response:...
