Authorities say James Phillips died of smoke inhalation when his house went up in flames. (January 4, 2013 10:35 AM)

An unextinguished cigarette sparked a blaze inside a Cortlandt Manor home Friday morning that killed a 58-year-old man, State Police said.

State Police Major Michael Kopy said police will not release the victim's name until they have notified his next of kin.

"He was alone at the residence at the time of the fire," Kopy said.

Officials believe the fire was accidental.
