A survivor of the plane crash in the Hudson River on Sunday called his wife as he struggled in the frigid waters off Yonkers, he said Tuesday at a ceremony honoring his rescuers.

"Tell the kids I love them," Christopher Smidt, a New Jersey correction officer and student pilot, told his wife, Karen, as he felt the icy waters overcoming him.
