The Hudson Valley's December unemployment rate climbed to 7.3 percent from 7 percent the month before as the construction and leisure and hospitality industries shed jobs, the state Labor Department reported.
In all, 82,700 people seeking employment failed to land jobs. Jim Brown, an analyst for the Labor Department, said more than half the decline could be traced to those two areas.
