Peekskill man ran lengthy mortgage aid scam, cops say

A "truly reprehensible" scammer promised homeowners in financial difficulties help with their mortgages and instead pocketed the money without doing any of the work, police said.
Anthony Vecchio, 50, of Peekskill, appeared in city court Thursday on charges of felony grand larceny and misdemeanor scheming to defraud and petty larceny, Peekskill police Lt. Eric Johansen said.
