Sylvia Woods remembered
A funeral service took place at Grace Baptist Church in Mount Vernon to celebrate the life of Sylvia Woods, founder of the soul food restaurant that carries her name. Woods died last week at age 86. She and her husband started Sylvia's Restaurant in 1962. It since has become a must-stop not only for the neighborhood but for tourists and high-profile politicians as well, looking to fill up on fried chicken, cornbread and other Southern staples.
