When one-time Westchester high school basketball star Daniel Medina killed himself last month, he left his distraught parents to question whether the legal system had failed him.

The 26-year-old Cortlandt Manor man had problems of his own making; he had pleaded guilty to charges he had tried to run down a doctor in a hospital parking lot.
