Thirty-three people were forced outside into the frigid air early Wednesday morning when a fire erupted at a four-story building at 138 Hawthorne Ave., Yonkers.

Firefighters had to carry hoses up four flights to battle the two-alarm blaze on the top floor of the nine-apartment structure.

Assistant Fire Chief Thomas Fitzpatrick said the fire, which was reported at 12:30 a.m., was persistent.
