The state Education Department on Monday approved the Yonkers teacher and principal evaluation plan, thereby securing some $17 million in school aid for the cash-strapped school district.

The battle between school administrators and the teachers union over a full contract and evaluation issues made Yonkers one of the last districts in the state to submit a plan.
